FRANCES DOHERTY
"My current work is based on the forms of fruiting bodies, seed pods and flowers. When you look at these forms in close up, you can see the beautiful mathematics within them, nothing is there by chance"
Frances Doherty trained in 3 dimensional design at Brighton University and specialised in ceramics. Since leaving college ten years ago, she has run a multi disciplinary studio in Brighton, and is now working between Brighton and Normandy, a life which she documents on her blog ‘The Ceramic Gardener.”
Her work is heavily influenced by the metamorphosis of plants, the continual life cycle from bud to seed pod. To investigate this at close quarters, she photographs then enlarges the pictures. Her ceramic sculptures are a result of this investigation.
This year Frances is exhibiting at Godington House in Kent during July and in several exhibitions in Normandy. Next year she will be showing for a second time at the Botanic Gardens on the Isle of Wight.
