Lara’s artistic practice concentrates on documenting the plants, flowers and fruit she has established and inherited in her garden. She has also recently turned her attention to formal gardens, allotments and landscapes passed through on road trips.

There is a sense of nostalgia in Lara's work. She has a collection of vases and jugs and in cutting flowers and placing them in these vessels there begins a limited time in which their relationship can be recorded and preserved; albeit in impression as opposed to photographically. Similarly, passing through a landscape provides a fleeting encounter and Lara records her own memory of a place; pared down elements experienced through senses - colour, light, temperature, mood - as opposed to exact details.

Working in oils or acrylics she uses brush and palette knife to build layers of colour and texture. Having previously worked in stained glass Lara brings similar characteristics to her paintings.

“Light is a vital element in my work and I enjoy playing with colour, composition and marks to create something with vibrancy and personality.”

Inspiration comes from a variety of places; textiles, floral illustrations, the impressionist painters, ceramic design, household paint colour charts and the old masters' still life paintings.
